Matthews International Corp., the Pittsburgh-based industrial technologies and memorialization company, said Daniel E. Stopar will step into the chief financial officer and treasurer position after a retirement announcement by current CFO and Treasurer Steven Nicola.

Nicola announced his intention to retire effective Dec. 31 after more than 30 years at the financial helm of the company. He joined Matthews in 1992, the company said, and has served as CFO since 2003.

“Steve’s leadership and integrity have been instrumental to Matthews’ success,” Joe Bartolacci, president and CEO of Matthews, said. “His steady guidance and deep financial expertise have helped shape the Company’s growth and resilience over the years. We thank him for his outstanding contributions and wish him the very best in retirement.”

The company’s Board of Directors named Stopar Nicola’s successor, effective Dec. 1. Stopar joined the company in 2013 and has extensive experience in financial, accounting and reporting matters, and has held various executive financial roles with the company, most recently as senior vice president, operations controller and head of global business services.

Prior to joining Matthews, Stopar held financial leadership roles for Royal Philips Electronics and Respironics Inc.

Matthews focuses on driving operational efficiency and long-term growth through continuous innovation and strategic expansion through its two core businesses. The Industrial Technologies segment focused on transforming industries through the application of precision technologies and intelligent processes. The company also focuses on memorialization – providing memorials, caskets and cremation/incineration equipment to the cemetery and funeral home industry segment. Matthews also has a significant investment in Propelis, a brand solutions business formed by the merger of SGK and SGS & Co., that delivers integrated solutions for brand creative, packaging, prints solutions and content production.

Matthews has more than 5,400 employees in 19 countries on four continents.
