Cranberry Township-based Westinghouse Electric Co. and seven Bulgarian suppliers recently signed memorandums supporting the two-unit AP1000 project at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant site.

The agreements establish the potential for supplying a variety of products and services. These include electrical and industrial equipment, instrumentation and control equipment, piping, cranes, and logistics and transportation.

The agreements are a result of the second Westinghouse Bulgaria Supplier Symposium that allowed regional suppliers to learn more about supporting global AP1000 projects.

“We continue to make excellent progress on our engineering services contract to deliver two advanced AP1000 reactors at the Kozloduy site, thanks in large part to the deeply experienced Bulgarian nuclear supply chain,” Dan Lipman, Westinghouse Energy Systems president, said. “With this supply chain expansion, we look to tap into the expertise of local construction, electrical and logistics suppliers, which will be critical in delivering the project on time and on budget.”

Westinghouse previously signed agreements with 30 Bulgarian suppliers to support the project.

Currently, there are six AP1000 reactors operating with 12 reactors under construction and four under contract. By the end of the decade, there will be 18 units based on AP1000 technology in operation globally. Several nuclear energy programs have selected the technology.
