Covestro, a German-based polymer materials and components manufacturer with its North American headquarters in Pittsburgh, plans to expand its site in Hebron, Ohio.
Construction is scheduled to begin soon on multiple production lines and related infrastructure that will allow the company to manufacture customized polycarbonate compounds and blends.
Once completed, the expansion will increase Covestro’s Solutions & Specialties business’ capacity in the North American market, allowing it to meet the growing demand for high-quality materials in the automotive, electronics, and healthcare industries.
“This investment in our U.S. compounding plant is an important component of our sustainable growth strategy,” Thorsten Dreier, Covestro chief technology officer, said. “With this expansion, we can meet our customers’ growing demand for specialized polycarbonate materials, grow together with our customers, and strengthen our position as a leading provider of polycarbonate materials in North America. The move also aligns with our strategy to produce in the region for the region, to manufacture close to our customers and ensure reliable supply.”
The company previously invested $4.1 million to expand its research and development capabilities in Pittsburgh. The facilities will work together to support sustainable developments and digitalization, electrification and automation of mobility, and other technological advances.
Hebron operations will begin by the end of 2026.
