SAE International, based in Warrendale, Pa., announced Dr. Jacqueline El-Sayed will take the helm as the company’s new CEO effective Jan. 6.

El-Sayed will lead SAE International and its affiliate organizations the Performance Review Institute, SAE Industry Technologies Consortia (ITC) and their subsidiaries. The worldwide association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries, SAE International said El-Sayed will continue to advance the organization’s mission to advance mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. El-Sayed to the SAE International Organization,” Carla Bailo, president of SAE International’s board of directors, said. “Her background in engineering education and mobility technology will drive SAE to better deliver on our mission for our customers. Her past success as CEO demonstrates her drive to pursue excellence at all levels.”

El-Sayed previously serviced as the CEO for the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and has a reputation for educating and inspiring engineers. Officials said her experience has been focused on non-profit management and strategy, across sectors and working with constituents to drive organizations forward.

“It is incredibly exciting to return to the mobility community which launched my career. I am deeply honored to have been selected as CEO and am looking forward to listening, learning, and working together to reach our full potential,” said Dr. El-Sayed.

The announcement comes after SAE International dismissed its previous CEO, David Schutt, in May by the organization’s Board of Directors after an investigation revealed “behaviors and actions inconsistent with the organization’s code of conduct, culture and values.”

Bailo and Greg Bradley, SAE’s Chief Legal Officer served as co-CEOs for the organization in the interim with support from SAE International’s executive leadership council.
