Malvern-based PQ, a silicates, silicas and derivative products producer, recently announced it has agreed to purchase Belgium-based Sibelco Group’s, a global material solutions, specialty silicate business. The business operates out of the Lödöse plant in Sweden.
“Sibelco’s silicate business has a long history of success in Sweden,” Al Beninati, PQ CEO, said. “This acquisition allows PQ to expand our sodium and potassium silicate offerings to the Nordic markets such as mining, construction, and pulp & paper. PQ has operated in the region for over 70 years and looks forward to continuing to provide high-quality products as part of this expanded portfolio.”
The deal is expected to close in early 2025 and is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Sibelco Safeco Group employs approximately 5,000 people with production facilities in more than 30 countries. The company recycles glass, and mines, processes and sells specialty industrial minerals such as silica, clays, feldspathics, high purity quartz, and olivine. It serves the ceramics, construction, coatings, glass, polymers, water purification industries.
PQ employs 1,500 employees and operates 30 facilities in 13 countries. It offers products that support a broad range of end uses including silica and chemical manufacturing, construction and drilling, food and beverage, nutrition, paints and coatings, personal care, and purification.
