The Microelectronics Commons, supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, recently awarded Canonsburg-based Ansys, a software development company, a digital engineering solutions contract.

Under the contract, Ansys will provide the Commons’ network with access to the Ansys Learning Hub, giving the network access to nearly 90 percent of the Ansys simulation suite.

The network includes academic institutions, government organizations, and public and private companies. Researchers will use the suite to design chips that are predictively accurate, secure, and reliable while academic institutions will educate the next generation of the semiconductor work force.

“Ansys has decades of experience working directly with chip manufacturers and leading-edge chip designers, and throughout this time we have become experts in the same areas; we learn from them as they learn from us,” John Lee, Ansys semiconductor, electronics, and optics business unit vice president and general manager, said. “These relationships underscore Ansys’ commitment to improving national distribution and access to critical resources, and we are looking forward to working with the network to solidify our global position in the semiconductor industry.”

The Commons leads a national effort to lower barriers to manufacturing facilities for researchers and innovators. It was established under the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021.
