The U.S. Coast Guard recently awarded Cranberry Township-based MSA Safety, an advanced safety products, technologies and solutions company, a 10-year $33 million contract to provide firefighter respiratory protective equipment.
Under the terms of the contract, MSA will supply its G1 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to surface support facilities and the operational surface fleet.
“We are incredibly proud the U.S. Coast Guard has placed their trust and confidence in the MSA brand,” Steve Blanco, MSA Safety president and CEO, said. “The innovative design and versatility of the G1 SCBA platform helps to improve firefighter health and safety by enabling the addition of new technologies as those technologies become available. We very much look forward to this partnership and the privilege of helping to protect the members of the U.S. Coast Guard.”
The equipment’s features include a single rechargeable battery, an integrated telemetry solution, a standard voice amplification and radio interface capability, and an ergonomic cylinder carrier and harness.
Production has already begun at the company’s Murrysville facility.
Initial orders under the contract were received in the third quarter and are valued at approximately $22 million.
MSA Safety employs more than 5,000 people at more than 40 international locations and had revenue totaling $1.8 billion in 2023.
