Kennett Square-based South Mill Champs, a vertically integrated grower and supplier of North American mushrooms and functional mushroom foods, recently purchased Baird Produce.

The purchase expands the company’s distribution network in Florida.

“We are excited to now be operating in Tampa and look forward to continuing the legacy of Baird Produce by delivering the freshest mushrooms, fruits and vegetables to the greater Tampa region,” Mike Pia Jr., South Mill Champs vice president of Business Growth, said. “The proximity of Tampa to our existing Winter Haven operation will create synergies that will allow us to provide quality, fresh mushrooms efficiently to this key Floridian market.”

South Mill Champs operates cold chain distribution centers throughout the United States including in Pennsylvania, Florida, California, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, and Texas.

Distribution centers provide customized packaging and labeling for mushrooms and other select produce while refrigerated delivery vehicles ensure on-time deliveries.

The company purchased World Fresh Produce last year. The purchase allowed South Mill Champs to supply its customers with specialty seasonal produce alongside mushrooms.

South Mill Champs has growing and processing operations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, British Columbia, and Manitoba. In addition to mushrooms and other fresh food products, the company offers full-service logistics and cold storage.
