Pennsylvania recently settled a lawsuit with Titan Gas, a Texas-based company that allegedly violated a 2019 settlement that prohibited contact with Pennsylvanians on the Do-Not-Call registry.
According to the recent settlement, 2.7 million telemarketing calls were made to Pennsylvanians since 2019. The state Attorney General contended the calls used deceptive and unlawful lead generation practices to lure people into giving their consent to receive calls.
Titan Gas, which does business as CleanSky Energy, is required to pay $160,000 in civil penalties and $35,000 in costs under the most recent settlement. It also will provide Pennsylvania with a report outlining its compliance with the original settlement and consumer protection laws.
A portion of the civil penalties will be distributed to residents who submitted complaints about Titan’s calls.
“This company knew better than to telemarket to consumers who are on the Do-Not-Call list, and my office will not tolerate disregard of Pennsylvanians who explicitly request privacy,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said. “This settlement holds Titan accountable for their violations and puts other telemarketers on notice.”
Deputy Attorney General Mark Wolfe filed the joint stipulated motion in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas. Once the court approves the consent order, it will become effective.
