Walmart opens high tech fulfillment center in Greencastle

Walmart recently celebrated the grand opening of a 1.5 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Greencastle.

“Walmart is paving the way for good jobs and great careers in the south-central Pennsylvania region with the Greencastle fulfillment center,” Karisa Sprague, Walmart U.S. senior vice president of Fulfillment Network Operations, said. “These tech-powered jobs will drive the future of Walmart’s continued promise of speedy shipping and delivery for customers on the east coast. Our next generation fulfillment centers are the perfect example of how we are a people-led, tech-powered retailer.”

The center will allow the company to fulfill a high volume of Walmart.com orders with next- or two-day shipping and will employ more than 1,000 people.

Walmart’s fulfillment network services 95 percent of the U.S. population.

In Pennsylvania, Walmart has 159 retail locations, employs more than 55,000 people, and supports local businesses. During fiscal year 2024, the retailer has spent $16.2 billion with suppliers and supported 156,519 supplier jobs.

During fiscal year 2023, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation contributed more than $38 million to nonprofit organizations statewide.

During the grand opening ceremony, Walmart presented a $10,000 donation to Greencastle-Antrim School District.

Walmart has more than 10,500 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries.
