The American Chemistry Council (ACC), representing companies engaged in the chemistry industry, recently honored Pittsburgh-based PPG with an 2024 Sustainability Leadership Award.
The award honors member companies for technologies and initiatives that help advance sustainability in four categories: circularity; environmental protection; product safety, innovation and transparency; and social responsibility and community engagement.
ACC convened a judging panel to select award winners. Criteria the panel used includes scope and reach of impact, level of innovation, and addressing the priorities outlined in ACC’s Sustainability Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The council honored PPG for its ENVIROPRIME EPIC 300 electrocoat. The product cures at lower temperatures than previous ecoat technologies. It was honored in the Product Safety, Innovation and Transparency category.
“PPG remains focused on providing our automotive customers with sustainable technologies to assist in meeting their long-term goals,” Garry Grant, PPG global product manager, substrate protection products, Automotive Coatings, said. “After 60 years in electrocoat technology leadership, our teams continue to innovate sustainably advantaged solutions, such as Enviroprime EPIC 300, which improve environmental impacts.”
The product can be applied to heavy electric vehicle assemblies using less energy and heat. This lowers greenhouse gas emissions and reduces energy input by 11 to 13 percent.
