Pittsburgh-based PPG recently launch an automated paint mixing system in Mexico.

The system, PPG MOONWALK, improves quality and efficiency for car refinishing. It features 80 storage spaces for inks, 13 positions in the dispensing rack, and a compact size which helps keep paint rooms clean and splash free.

The system works with a PPG TOUCHMIX Express touchscreen and PPG PAINTMANAGER XI color management software. This allows for automatic dispensing of the correct amount of product, barcode verification, and label printing.

The system saves time and labor costs, reduces material waste and provides a complete tool for paint shops, the company said.

“Historically, the color mixing process in vehicle refinishing has been laborious and detailed, requiring precision and time,” Juan Pablo Reyes, PPG senior manager, Mexico, Automotive Refinish, said.

Brazil and Colombia were the first two markets in Latin America to receive the system.

“Currently, more than 2,000 body shops worldwide have PPG MoonWalk systems installed,” Reyes said. “The arrival of this technology in Mexico is an essential step towards the modernization of the automotive industry in the country, positioning PPG as a reference in the adoption of leading-edge technology.”

PPG operates in more than 70 countries, serving customers in the construction, consumer products, industrial, and transportation markets and aftermarkets. In 2022, the company reported net sales of $17.7 billion.
