Erie-based Truck-Lite, a provider of lighting, wiring harnesses, turn signals and safety accessories for the medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, recently opened its Advanced Transportation Lighting Laboratory at Penn State Behrend in Erie during a private event.

“Truck-Lite has proudly earned the trust of customers over its history by consistently delivering products that set the industry benchmark, and we intend for this to continue well into the future,” Jon Stineman, Truck-Lite president, said. “The Truck-Lite Advanced Transportation Lighting Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility that brings a complete set of testing and validation capabilities directly to the Truck-Lite engineers responsible for the development of future lighting solutions.“

The laboratory was designed to help the company manufacture products that comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and meet their internal standards.

Truck-Lite engineers will have the ability to test and validate product designs against more than 1,000 different standards set by the transportation industry.

In addition, the company can issue certifications for custom designed products for Original Equipment Manufacturers and certifications for lighting used in military and defense applications.

The facility includes a 100-foot light tunnel designed to measure optics performance for a variety of characteristics, including intensity, color, and distribution and spread.
