The U.S. Navy recently awarded Cranberry Township-based MSA Safety, a developer, manufacturer and supplier of safety products and solutions, a $24.5 million contract to provide components for refrigerant monitoring systems.

The contract covers components for refrigerant monitoring systems that support the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support program. The components are used on U.S. naval ships.

MSA Safety will perform production work at its New Kensington manufacturing plant.

“We are proud the U.S. Navy has put its trust and confidence in the MSA Safety brand and selected us as the sole-source provider for this equipment,” Nish Vartanian, MSA Safety chairman and CEO, said. “The multi-year contract will help assure consistency in the kind of detection equipment used onboard ships,” he added. “That’s important because uniformity, in this case, will help minimize for Navy personnel the learning curve associated with system training, use and maintenance.”

Founded in 1914, MSA Safety had revenue totaling $1.5 billion in 2022. Approximately half of revenue came from outside North America. It employs approximately 5,000 people in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The company’s product line includes fall protection devices, firefighter helmets and protective apparel, fixed gas and flame detection systems, industrial head protection products, portable gas detection instruments, and self-contained breathing apparatus.
