Philadelphia-based PECO, Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas delivery company, has been preparing its natural gas system for weather resiliency year around.
“At PECO, we’re always evaluating our infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our more than 548,000 natural gas customers across southeastern Pennsylvania, so they have reliable energy when they need it most,” Amy Hamilton, PECO vice president of Gas Operations, said. “We take a year-round, proactive approach to inspect our infrastructure and make upgrades and improvements so we can support the region through every season.”
Last year, it completed 35 natural gas reliability projects in Chester County to maintain the system and to install new natural gas mains and service lines.
The company plans to invest approximately $7.8 billion over the next five years in its electric and natural gas systems for the inspection equipment, purchasing new equipment, targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, and vegetation management work.
The investment includes PECO’s Natural Gas Long-Term Infrastructure Plan to modernize natural gas infrastructure.
The company has inspected its natural gas system equipment and installed additional natural gas mains and service lines, performed preventative maintenance work, and completed necessary repairs or replacements.
This year, PECO will spend $281 million on the natural gas infrastructure.
