Westinghouse Electric Co. recently announced it appointed Jon Ball as president of its eVinci Microreactor business.
In this role, which went into effect on Monday, Ball will establish the company’s global accelerator for its eVinci microreactor technology. The accelerator with a focus on advanced design, commercialization, manufacturing and deployment.
“Jon is a respected leader in the nuclear energy industry with 30 years of technical expertise and global experience across the nuclear lifecycle and, in particular, with advanced reactors,” Patrick Fragman, Westinghouse president and CEO, said. “He is exceptionally qualified to drive exponential growth for Westinghouse’s eVinci microreactor business across the world.”
The eVinci microreactor is designed to provide approximately 5 megawatts of electricity or 15 megawatts of thermal power around the clock for at least eight years without refueling. It is built, fueled and assembled before it is shipped to customers and can be used for data centers, defense facilities, off-grid communities, remote mining, and other applications.
Ball has served in executive leadership roles at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and in several positions in its nuclear fuels and services businesses. He began working at Westinghouse as a project manager and a laboratory supervisor at the U.S. government’s decommissioned nuclear product complex in southeastern Washington.
