Virginia-based BAE Systems recently announced it will expand the production lines at its York manufacturing site for the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) and Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV).
York will become a Production Center of Excellence for both programs while other product manufacturing lines will move to other BAE Systems’ locations.
The expansion is part of BAE Systems’ investment in combat vehicle facilities. The U.S. Army’s AMPV multi-mission family of vehicles provides the Armored Brigade Combat Team with survivability, mobility, and interoperability. The U.S. Marine Corps’ ACV family of vehicles is designed to be an adaptable amphibious platform capable of completing complex mission objectives.
“These changes will continue to leverage York’s infrastructure and deep experience in manufacturing combat vehicles while increasing capacity and efficiency across other sites,” said Andy Corea, BAE Systems vice president and general manager for Combat Mission Systems. “These investments allow us to fully leverage our industrial network to effectively and safely deliver combat vehicles to the U.S. military and its allies well into the future.”
Changes will begin during the third quarter.
BAE Systems has been making investments at its manufacturing sites, including adding paint booths and opening a Swim Pond test facility for amphibious vehicles at York.
