Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corp. recently received an order for 300 half-height platform screen doors for a rail project in Panama.
The doors will be installed in Metro de Panama’s L3 monorail stations Hitachi Rail, a fully integrated, global provider of rail solutions, is building as part of the Grupo de Empresas Sunrise Monorail. This is Wabtec’s first project in Central America.
Wabtec’s platform screen doors act as a barrier to prevent people or objects from trespassing or falling onto tracks. In addition to the screen doors, Wabtec will provide training and support for installation, testing, and commissioning.
“Having delivered one of the most advanced metro lines around the world – employing the latest digital technology – we know that the doors, platforms and stations have to work together with the rest of the systems to operate efficiently and provide a great passenger experience,” Chris Singer, Hitachi Rail director of signaling and turnkey procurement for the Americas, said. “The gates contribute to making rail services more punctual and reliable by helping passengers board and alight trains in an orderly and safely fashion, thereby reducing wait times.”
The Grupo de Empresas Sunrise Monorail project will build a 15.5-mile monorail line served by 28 six-car trains.
