Bethlehem–based ABEC, an engineered solutions and services provider for biotech manufacturing, recently announced plans to invest $11 million in Wilson, N.C.
The investment will expand single-use disposable container (DC) manufacturing capacity for its Custom Single Run (CSR) biomanufacturing solutions and includes constructing a 50,000-square-foot facility on 13 acres.
The new facility, ABEC’s third global DC manufacturing site, will feature state of-the-art manufacturing equipment and an ISO-7 cleanroom.
“We are pleased that the industry is recognizing the value of our CSR products and we are excited about our investment in Wilson,” Scott Pickering, ABEC CEO and chairman, said. “We look forward to building new long term partnerships in the area and supporting our customers globally from this new site.”
The facility is expected to be fully operational during the second quarter of 2023 and will employ 251 people including engineers and manufacturing personnel.
ABEC’s single-use manufacturing capacity is dedicated to CSR products. It supplies DCs globally from Bethlehem and from its facility in Ireland.
The North Carolina facility will ensure ABEC continues to offer the industry’s shortest DC lead times.
ABEC supplies the majority of the world’s pharmaceutical and biotech companies that use ABEC’s equipment to manufacture medical therapies.
