The Kraft Heinz Co. recently purchased a majority stake in Companhia Hemmer Indústria e Comércio (Hemmer), a Brazilian food company focused on condiments and sauces.
The proposed deal was announced in September, and Brazil’s antitrust body approved the deal without restrictions.
“We are very excited about the completion of the deal, which furthers Kraft Heinz’s plan to become one of the largest food players in the country, expanding our selection for our consumers,” Fernando Rosa, Kraft Heinz managing director of Brazil, said. “This combination represents a tremendous growth opportunity for both companies, which are both built on the pillars of tradition, innovation, quality, superior ingredients, and flavor.”
The companies’ brands and portfolios are complementary. In addition, Hemmer will benefit from Kraft Heinz’s distribution network and go-to-market model, and Kraft Heinz will expand its International Taste Elevation platform and support its strategy to increase its presence in emerging markets.
Founded in 1915, Hemmer is based in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil. It produces and markets various beverages, canned foods, condiments, and olive oils. Its goal is to stand apart from other food companies with its varied product portfolio.
Kraft Heinz had net sales of approximately $26 billion last year.
