Altoona-based Sheetz, a restaurant and convenience store chain, recently entered into a long-term renewable supply agreement with Constellation, a retail supplier of power and energy products, to power nearly 70 percent of Sheetz’s Pennsylvania facilities with renewable energy.

“Sheetz is dedicated to being a responsible steward of our environment,” Travis Sheetz, Sheetz president and CEO, said. “Through this purchase agreement and partnership with Constellation, Sheetz will be able to power more than 160 stores and approximately 40 other facilities with renewable energy, significantly reducing our environmental impact in Pennsylvania.”

Under the agreement, Sheetz will receive approximately 110 million kilowatt hours of energy annually with an energy match from Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) sourced from renewable facilities throughout the United States. Each REC represents one megawatt hour of electricity generated by a renewable power plant.

This will help the company avoid nearly 78,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

Sheetz will use a Constellation solution that increases businesses’ access to and enables the development of renewable energy projects by removing the hurdles associated with traditional offsite power purchase agreements.

Sheetz has taken other steps to minimize its environmental impact, including offering DC Fast Charging for Electric Vehicles at more than 75 locations across six states.
