Nestlé Purina PetCare, the largest dry dog and cat food manufacturer in the United States, plans to expand its Cumberland County operations.
The pet-care provider will add new processing and packaging lines to its Hampden Township location. It plans to hire 94 employees within the next three years.
The company employs nearly 800 Pennsylvanians. It has facilities in Mechanicsburg and Allentown.
The Mechanicsburg factory produces brands such as Fancy Feast, Purina Pro Plan, and Purina ONE.
“Pet owners have trusted Purina for more than 90 years, and demand for our pet food is strong and continues to grow,” John Bear, Purina vice president of manufacturing, said. “Purina is proud to make high-quality foods for dogs and cats at our Mechanicsburg factory with a continued commitment to safety and environmental sustainability. This expansion reflects an investment in our local operations, and we look forward to continuing to deliver innovative and highly nutritious foods for pets.”
The company will invest more than $167 million into the project.
The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a proposal for $282,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, to be distributed when the new jobs are created, and $188,000 for workforce development training.
The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team.
