Amtrak, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, partially restored full-length Keystone Service today in anticipation of increased demand.
The route runs from New York to Philadelphia to Harrisburg. The restored service will make one roundtrip between Harrisburg and New York.
Restored service includes nine weekday roundtrips and six weekends roundtrips. Other trains along the line will temporarily operate between Philadelphia and Harrisburg.
Last month, Amtrak fully restored the Pennsylvanian that runs from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia to New York. It is operating one daily roundtrip.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amtrak is limiting bookings to less than half of capacity to maintain physical distancing onboard trains. Tickets must be purchased in advance online, using a mobile app or via telephone.
“We are dedicated to doing everything possible to return service safely. We want everyone to feel comfortable as they navigate this new normal,” Amtrak President and CEO Bill Flynn said.
Amtrak is following a pandemic-response policy that includes limiting bookings; disinfecting stations and trains; requiring all customers to wear face coverings while in stations, on trains and Thruway Buses; adding signage in high customer traffic areas to help indicate safe distances; and implementing cashless payments in stations and on trains.
