Spring Grove-based Pixelle Specialty Solutions recently completed the purchase of two specialty papers mills from Verso Corp., making it North America’s largest specialty papers producer.
Production exceeds 1 million tons annually. Pixelle produces specialty paper for multiple industries, including food packaging paper, book paper, envelope and converting paper, and niche products.
“Customers now have access to the specialty papers industry’s largest assembly of technical expertise, product knowledge, skilled labor and production capabilities,” Timothy Hess, Pixelle CEO, said. “At this industry-leading scale, we can provide customers with advanced capabilities such as barrier coatings, customized coating technologies, release and casting chemistries, inkjet innovations, document security, and short-run custom colors.”
Pixelle operates mills in Spring Grove, Pa., and Chillicothe, Ohio. The new mills are located in Jay, Maine, and Stevens Point, Wis. Three of the locations have on-site pulp mills and collectively utilize 12 paper machines.
The company also operates a converting facility in Fremont, Ohio, and strategically located wood sourcing operations.
Pixelle was founded in 2018 by private investment firm Lindsay Goldberg. The company’s brands include Pointflex food and medical packaging papers, Unitherm thermal transfer label papers, NK Series natural kraft papers for converting and food packaging, and Aspect release liners and pressure-sensitive face papers.
