Chester County Commissioners recently toured the progress of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has been made is the final stage of the U.S. 202-300 project.

PennDOT has completed the replacement of two deteriorated bridge decks that carry U.S. 202 over Amtrak rail lines at the southern end of the U.S. 30 Interchange. Pavement on ramps to and from the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass in East and West Whiteland townships also has been replaced.

PennDOT also widened U.S. 202 from four lanes to six lanes for 6.5 miles just south of the Route 252 Interchange to the U.S. 30 Interchange in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland Townships.

“We thank PennDOT for leading this project and completing this work,” Commissioner Kathi Cozzone said. “Improvements to U.S. 202 – both upcoming and completed projects – help our residents and people who work in and visit Chester County by reducing congestion in line with an objective of Landscapes3, the County’s comprehensive plan.”

Landscapes3 had identified U.S. 202 south of West Chester as a critically congestion area where redesigning the area would improve mobility and safety.

The next phase of U.S. 202’s improvements is in the preliminary design stage. The project will reduce congestion and increase safety at the intersection of U.S. 202 and Route 926.
