Penn State Extension will hold a webinar on natural gas pipelines Oct. 17.
Joe McGinn, Energy Transfer vice president of public affairs and government relations, and Doug Speerstra, Energy Transfer project manager, will discuss planning and developing pipeline routes, the permitting process, reclamation of a site, pipeline operations, and the safety and environmental concerns.
McGinn and Speerstra also will explain how new pipeline projects are decided.
“Building a pipeline requires a lot of planning that sometimes starts years before construction,” McGinn said. “There is a rigorous review and permitting process that includes numerous stakeholders and public input.”
The United States is the world’s largest producer of natural gas, so moving gas safely and efficiently is vital for the economy. There are 27 natural gas pipeline projects pending, according to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Registration for the free webinar is required either online or via telephone.
Visitors to the Penn State Extension natural-gas website can find information, publications and previous webinars on the Marcellus and Utica basins; the impact of Marcellus gas development on forestland; legal issues surrounding gas development; gas-leasing considerations for landowners; natural gas reserves; water use and quality; liquid natural gas; seismic testing; and methane emissions.
