The Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC) recently launched its seventh annual “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” student video contest.
This year PA Dream Team, a group of professionals employed in STEM careers with area manufacturers, will partner with MRC to promote STEAM Education in Lehigh Valley High Schools.
The contest is open to 7th and 8th graders. Student-teams partner with manufacturers and then develop, shoot, edit, and produce a video to document their experiences.
Students will compete first at the regional level and then at the third annual “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” PA Statewide Awards on April 29 in Harrisburg. Voting for the Viewers Choice Award will begin in mid-February.
“This program is very exciting, the students love it and so do the manufacturers, and its success is evidenced by its continued expansion, not just here in Pennsylvania but across the country,” Karen Buck, MRC manager of Workforce Initiatives, said. “The benefits to the community are inestimable. Students get to experience, first hand, what modern, cool manufacturing looks like and the manufacturers get to excite the next generation about technology, STEM education, and careers.”
This year, 31 teams representing 25 school districts in the Lehigh Valley will compete and will
partner with 31 manufacturers.
