Penn State Health recently announced it plans to open an acute care hospital near state Route 283 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.
The hospital will be located on 30 acres and will provide physician offices, an emergency department, inpatient services, an imaging lab, complete medical and surgical capabilities, and
private inpatient beds.
“We are committed to building a regional health network across central Pennsylvania that gives our patients a full range of care right in their neighborhoods,” Steve Massini, Penn State Health CEO, said. “This new acute care facility is another step toward delivering on our promise to ensure the communities we serve are within 10 minutes of our primary care providers, 20 minutes of our specialty care and 30 minutes of our acute care.”
The facility will give Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties’ residents access to specialty services without having to drive to Penn State Health’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Cancer Institute or Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey.
Once all necessary approvals are completed, construction is expected to begin next year.
The new hospital is expected will create hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and during hospital operations.
Penn State Health opened the Lime Spring Outpatient Center in East Hempfield Township earlier this year.
