The Lehigh Valley “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” awards ceremony was held Feb. 26 in Bethlehem.

The ceremony honors students who participated in the WSCM program developed by Manufacturers Resource Center (MRC). The program connects students with local manufacturers. Students were asked to document their experiences.

“The student teams and teachers put an exceptional amount of work into this contest – meeting with manufacturers, filming and editing their projects,” Jack Pfunder, MRC president and CEO, said. “The growing success of this program across the state of Pennsylvania, and the country, validates its design, which is to raise awareness for manufacturing career opportunities for our students by letting them discover and explore the field. Viewing and voting their videos online and feeling the pay-off of their hard work supports not only the students, but their schools and manufacturing in the region.”

Awards were presented in 11 categories.

The Outstanding Overall Program award was presented to Lower Macungie Middle School partnered with Mack Trucks.

The Viewers Choice award was presented to Springhouse Middle School partnered with Lutron Electronics.

The Outstanding Educational Value award was presented to Orefield Middle School partnered with Ocean Spray Cranberries.

More than 900 people attended the awards ceremony.
