Construction crews lifted into place the final steel beam on the 79,000-square-foot AHN (Allegheny Health Network) Hempfield-Neighborhood Hospital in Greensburg Thursday.
The fully licensed small-format hospital will include a 10-bed inpatient unit, an emergency room, a laboratory, diagnostic imaging and complementary medical services.
Design elements include X-ray and CT procedure rooms that will be able to accommodate patients of any age, adjacent observation rooms so families can stay together during procedures, and nursing stations configured to maximize sightlines and accessibility.
The hospital will be staffed by board-certified physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.
The adjoining AHN Cancer Institute-Hempfield will include radiation oncology, medical oncology and infusion therapy, and diagnostic labs and imaging.
The hospital and the cancer center will open later this year.
AHN Hempfield is one of four neighborhood hospitals AHN is building across western Pennsylvania. The other locations are Brentwood, Harmar, and McCandless.
AHN is investing $1 billion to expand access to convenient, close-to-home emergency care.
The cancer center will be AHN’s fifth community cancer center expected to open this year. The other locations are in Beaver County, Butler, Erie and Monroeville.
Texas-based Emerus has partnered with AHN to build and manage the new facilities. It is the country’s largest operator of neighborhood hospitals.
