The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and the University of Scranton’s Small Business Development Center recently launched the Small Business Internship Fund, which places students in internships with chamber member businesses.

“Quality, paid internships are a win-win for students and employers,” Bob Durkin, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce president, said. “The students gain valuable experience and learn about professional opportunities right here in our region, and our businesses benefit from the unique skills of talented young scholars who will be the foundation of our future workforce.”

Students must be residents of Lackawanna County or must be enrolled at a chamber member college or university or a Lackawanna County college or university.

Businesses must be for-profit organizations with a good standing with the chamber and must meet the United States Small Business Administration Size standards. Businesses also must agree on having business names and photos used for public relations purposes and must agree to fill out any paperwork required by the chamber and development center.

The business community sponsors this fund through of the chamber’s 150th Anniversary Celebration.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) applauded the fund. Northeastern Pennsylvania has some of the best and brightest young minds in the country, he said.
