National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation (National Fuel) recently submitted to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission its annual adjustment to gas supply charges, which would decrease the monthly bill of a typical residential customer by 3.08 percent.
The adjustment reduces the monthly bill of a typical residential customer who uses 99,400 cubic feet of gas annually by $2.26, from $73.41 to $71.15. The change is effective Aug. 1.
“Resulting from the abundant supply of Marcellus Shale gas, market prices for natural gas remain at 10-year lows, benefitting northwestern Pennsylvania homes and businesses,” National Fuel said. “Nearly all of the gas consumed by National Fuel utility customers comes from Northeast-produced shale gas. Pennsylvania is the largest producer of those supplies.”
The company’s price-to-compare gas commodity charge, a reference point important for customers shopping for an alternate gas supplier, will decrease to $0.41643 per 100 cubic feet.
National Fuel passes its gas supply charges along to customers without markup or profit. Pennsylvania utility companies may update gas supply charges on a quarterly basis to reflect changes in the market price of natural gas. The next opportunity for National Fuel to adjust gas supply charges will be Nov. 1.
