Constellation Energy invests $90M in Montgomery County facility

The facility includes two boiling water reactors capable of delivering 2,317 megawatts of emissions-free energy. During the outage, 1,400 electricians, pipefitters, welders, carpenters, laborers, steamfitters and other tradespeople worked for more than 20 days to perform generator component replacements, cooling tower performance upgrades, and other projects that will allow the facility to operate safely and reliably for the next 24 months.

“During this outage, we safely completed upgrades that will allow Limerick Unit 1 to continue to deliver dependable, emissions-free electricity for decades to come,” Marty Bonifanti, Limerick site vice president, said. “This work is very important to the region’s energy future as the demand for reliable, emissions-free electricity continues to grow. We use the outage as an opportunity to invest in the plant’s long‑term performance and that creates well-paying jobs and economic growth for our community.”

Constellation generates approximately 10 percent of the clean energy in the United States and serves approximately 2.5 million customer accounts nationwide, including 80 percent of Fortune 100 companies.
