Allegheny County has established a series of initiatives aimed at clean technology and advanced manufacturing.
County Executive Sara Innamorato signed an executive order, Advancing Clean Technology for Neighborhood and Next-Generation Opportunity and Workforce (ACT NOW), on Thursday that calls for investments in economic infrastructure that can support long-term competitiveness in clean technology and advanced manufacturing. It builds on previous county efforts.
“Allegheny County has the talent, institutions, and industrial foundation to lead in clean technology and advanced manufacturing,” Innamorato said. “ACT NOW creates a coordinated strategy to grow these industries, create good-paying jobs, support local companies, and ensure the benefits of this growth reach workers and communities across our region.”
ACT NOW directs four core actions. It creates a public investment framework to guide the county’s investment decisions, partners with anchor institutions to aggregate demand for clean tech solutions, and explores clean procurement standards for county buildings, fleets, and infrastructure.
It also establishes a strategic action team that will meet this summer and deliver its first set of recommendations within six months. The team will advise the county executive on regional priorities, set measurable goals and timelines, and align regional stakeholders around shared goals. The team’s members will be announced in the near future.
