The Pittsburgh Robotics Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to driving the growth and commercialization of Pittsburgh’s robotics ecosystem, recently launched a work force development initiative.
The Deep Tech Institute for Leadership and Innovation aims to accelerate the growth of the region’s automation, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and advanced technology sectors by supporting early-career professionals exploring pathways into the industry and developing internal technical leaders currently employed in the sector.
“The Deep Tech Institute addresses a critical gap in an innovation ecosystem,” Jenn Apicella, of the Pittsburgh Robotics Network executive director, said. “It’s not just about developing skills. It’s about equipping professionals with the right skillset to commercialize breakthrough technologies. As robotics and AI continue to reshape global industries, the future of these companies depends not just on building innovation—but on building strong, visionary teams.”
The pilot Emerging Leader Mini Modules program will be held this summer. It is open to engineering students, technical interns and early career talent. Participants will receive real-world robotics and AI career paths exposure through hands-on sessions, site visits to tech companies and hearing guest speakers.
The goal is to give participants the industry insights necessary to make informed career decisions.
