Spring House-based Miller Financial Group recently became a certified veteran owned small business.
Certification allows the company to secure certain federal contracts and allows it to create partnerships and collaborations with other veteran-owned small businesses.
More than three generations of the Miller family have served in the U.S. Army including Gary Miller, the group’s third-generation owner. Miller graduated from West Point in 1974 and was commissioned a 2LT in the Field Artillery branch. He served on active duty for more than seven years before transferring to the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from military service in 1997.
“The military tradition has provided me tremendous opportunities to learn significant life lessons on character & integrity,” Miller said. “And one of the most notable is you learn to serve ‘callings greater than oneself.’ It gives you a unique navigational compass in life.”
Miller joined the family business in 1981 as an insurance broker.
There are 2,800 Certified Veteran Owned Small Businesses in the United States. The Miller Financial Group is one of four independent insurance agencies with the designation based in Pennsylvania.
