Malvern-based CertainTeed Roofing, the building products subsidiary of Saint-Gobain North America, recently acquired the technology rights from recycling partner Asphaltica.
This allows the company to recycle asphalt shingle waste. Saint-Gobain will be able to pelletize both post-industrial and post-consumer shingle waste. The pellets blend well in hot mix asphalt. They also are water resistant and can be used in variable climate conditions.
The technology also will help the company contribute to the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturing Association’s goal of reducing the landfill disposal of asphalt-based roofing materials by 50 percent by 2035 and nearly 0 percent by 2050.
