The Kraft Heinz Co. recently announced it entered into an agreement to purchase Brazilian condiment and sauce company Companhia Hemmer Indústria e Comércio (Hemmer).

The purchase supports the company’s presence in emerging markets and strategy to grow its International Taste Elevation product platform. It also leverages the company’s successful expansion into condiments and sauces and expands Kraft Heinz’s presence in Brazil.

“This acquisition offers us a valuable opportunity to accelerate our international growth strategy centered around Taste Elevation – our portfolio of high-quality products that enhance the taste of food,” Rafael Oliveira, Kraft Heinz international zone president, said. “Hemmer is a legendary company in Brazil, growing net sales significantly, and will bring a delicious and diverse portfolio of products to Kraft Heinz.”

Hemmer is a 106-year-old company that produces condiments, olive oil, picked and preserved food, and beverages. The purchase will allow it to take advantage of Kraft Heinz’s distribution network and its go-to-market model.

“We are extremely honored by this potential acquisition and the entire expansion potential this negotiation offers by continuing our family history in the region,” Christian Luef, Hemmer CEO, said.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval by Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense.

Kraft Heinz’s net sales totaled approximately $26 billion in 2020.
