Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, the U.S. affiliate of Mitsubishi Electric Corp. serving the North American power systems, and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. recently completed their purchase of Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS), a U.K.-based energy management enterprise software company for an undisclosed amount.

SGS’s products are used in the distributed energy resources (DER) market to manage power grids and market participation in energy systems with high volumes of distributed, clean and flexible energy.

DER management system products integrate DER into markets and grids for microgrids, virtual power plants, fleet energy asset operations, grid capacity management, energy-as-a-service, flexible interconnection, and local energy applications.

The power electric market worldwide is moving toward decentralized generation sources, including DER.

SGS operates internationally and has offices in Glasgow, Scotland, and New York City. It will maintain its Glasgow operations but will report to Warrendale-based Mitsubishi Electric Power Products.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products works with the data center, rail transportation, and large visual display markets.

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. manufactures, markets and sells electrical and electronic equipment used in energy, building equipment, transportation industrial technology, consumer electronics, information processing and communications, and space development and satellite communications.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, the company recorded $37.8 billion in revenue.
