West Pharmaceutical Services, an injectable medications producer, plans to update and expand its Williamsport manufacturing plant in Lycoming County.

The company plans to invest more than $18 million to add 12,000 square feet and purchase production equipment for a new product mixer line. The project is expected to increase manufacturing output and improve overall efficiency.

The company’s Williamsport and Jersey Shore sites are expanding to meet the growing demand driven by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Expansion is expected to create 29 manufacturing jobs in Williamsport and more than 100 positions in Jersey Shore. The company, headquartered in Exton, already employs more than 1,200 Pennsylvanians.

“This is an exciting announcement and powerful illustration of the opportunities and confidence that growing companies like West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. have in Lycoming County and in our workforce,” state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford County) said. “I commend the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, the Governor’s Action Team, county commissioners, and all those who have partnered together to make this expansion possible. I am excited to have the company grow their presence in our community and eager to support their success.”

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for a $687,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $258,000 workforce development grant.
