Mayfield Heights, Ohio-headquartered Materion Corp., a global producer of advanced engineered materials, plans to open a facility in Berks County.

The company manufactures high-performance advanced engineered materials used in structural, thermal, electrical, and electronic applications. The products are sold to aerospace and defense, automotive, consumer electronics, energy, industrial, semiconductor, and telecom and data center industries.

Materion will invest at least $80 million in the facility. The project is expected to create at least 65 high-wage positions and retain 132 jobs at an existing Berks County site.

“Economic growth continues in Berks County with the announcement that Materion is adding 65 full-time, well-paying jobs to our community,” Christian Y. Leinbach, Berks County Commissioners chairman, said. “We are thrilled with their decision to expand here in Berks County and appreciate the support from the commonwealth.”

Materion has been operating in Pennsylvania since 1958.

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a funding proposal for $78,000 for workforce training, $195,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed upon creation of the new jobs, and a $320,000 Pennsylvania First grant.

In addition, Materion may be eligible for the Research and Development Tax Credit program and the Manufacturing Tax Credit program.
