The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) recently awarded four local workforce development boards statewide $8.2 million in Near Completer Demonstration Project (NCDP) grants.
The grants assist job seekers who are out of work because of the COVID-19 pandemic by providing education and connecting them to positions that pay $15 per hour or more.
“These projects will make a direct investment in Pennsylvanians who are within one semester or less of completing their certificate or degree and help build a brighter future for these workers and their families,” Gov. Tom Wolf said.
The Lehigh Valley Workforce Development Board, serving Lehigh and Northampton counties, received $1.6 million to train 200 people who did not complete post-secondary education.
The Philadelphia Workforce Development Board, serving Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, received $2.5 million to help 300 people within one semester or less of completing their certificates or degrees.
The South Central Workforce Development Board, serving Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties, receive $1.6 million to help
200 workers achieve credentialing, certifications, and degrees.
The Three Rivers Workforce Development Board, serving Allegheny County and Pittsburgh, received $2.5 million to help 300 people finish their degree or credentials.
