Adelphia Gateway project gets go ahead from FERC

Adelphia Gateway, LLC announced Friday that it had received a Notice to Proceed with the second phase of the project from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The project will convert 50 miles of oil pipeline to natural gas pipeline, stretching from Marcus Hooks, Pa., to Lower Mount Bethel Township. It will provide natural gas to the Greater Philadelphia area, where the need for natural gas is growing.

“We are pleased to move into the final phase of construction on the Adelphia Gateway project, and we appreciate the collaboration with FERC, state agencies, municipalities, and the community during this process,” said Ginger Richman, president of Adelphia Gateway. “We look forward to meeting the demand for this much-needed resource of natural gas to the Philadelphia region.”

Phase 2 of the project will focus on Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and includes the Tilghman Lateral installation from the Transco Meter Station to its terminus in Chester city, the Parkway Lateral, the Delmarva Meter Station, the Monroe Meter Station, and the Tilghman Meter Station.

The project will ultimately convert 50 of the existing 84-miles of pipeline from oil to natural gas in Delaware, Chester, Buck, and Montgomery counties in the state. The other 34 miles of pipeline from Bucks County to the Martins Creek terminal in Northampton County have delivered natural gas since 1996.

In 2019, FERC issued the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the project and completed an environmental assessment. A partial Notice to Proceed for Phase 1 of the project was issued in October 2020.

Adelphia Gateway expects the pipeline conversion to be finished and provide service to Greater Philadelphia customers this year.
