Pittsburgh-based PPG recently completed $13 million in upgrades at its Chinese paint and coatings facility.

Upgrades include eight new powder coating production lines and an expanded Powder Coatings Technology Center.

The production lines will increase the plant’s capacity by more than 8,000 metric tons annually. They will produce heavy-duty machinery coatings, wheel hub coatings general industrial powder coatings, and other high-performance coatings.

The 21,500-square-feet center supports PPG’s development and testing of various coatings formulas. It also provides technical support for customers across the Asia Pacific region.

It includes a laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment where scientists and researchers develop coatings for various applications, including industrial applications, consumer electronics, construction machinery, automotive, building materials, and 5G.

“The Center is primarily focused on developing high-quality, reliable powder coatings for our customers in China and the broader Asia Pacific region,” Chen Wenhao, PPG senior manager of product development, science, and technology at the Jiading Powder Coatings Technology Center, said. “This expansion will allow us to build upon our capabilities, increase our testing resources, and improve the success rate of customer product trials, working closely with them in (research and development) and applications.”

PPG operates in more than 70 countries. Last year, the company had net sales totaling $13.8 billion.
