Pregis, a protective packaging manufacturer, plans to open a 300,000-square-foot facility in Bethel in early May.

The plant is part of the company’s strategy to add capacity to its e-commerce product line.

“E-commerce is continuing to grow exponentially,” Kevin Baudhuin, Pregis president and CEO, said. “Brand owners and retailers are looking for sustainable alternatives to ship their products through the parcel network direct to consumers. Pregis’ investment in this new manufacturing facility is yet another commitment to our robust e-commerce offering and our dedication to sustainable protective packaging options.”

The new facility will house multiple production lines to manufacture lightweight, recyclable all-paper cushioned mailers. The products will support demand in the Northeast.

Headquartered in Deerfield, Ill., Pregis offers a portfolio of products that address environmental concerns. The company has more than 25 North American facilities as well as operations in Europe.

The Bethel facility is the second to produce the cushioned mailers. The other facility is in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

In 2021, the company plans to add two additional sites to serve strategic geographic markets. The expansion will create approximately 450 new jobs, including 80 in Bethel.

The Bethel facility is large enough to house any future growth.
