U.S. Rep. Fred Keller (R-PA) held five virtual meetings last week with local chambers of commerce throughout Pennsylvania’s 12thDistrict to discuss provisions included in the latest COVID-19 relief legislation as well as its impact on regional business development.

The Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, Develop Tioga, Perry County Chamber of Commerce, Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce, and Clinton County Chamber of Commerce participated in the discussions.

The majority of Keller’s COVID relief discussion with local leaders revolved around the re-opening of the Paycheck Protection Program and ensuring small businesses utilize the $284 billion in available loans to help them remain operational.

“Based on what I have heard from community leaders, small business owners, and workers, Pennsylvanians are working hard to make it through this pandemic. I am hopeful that the resources recently passed by Congress, including the renewal of the Paycheck Protection Program, will help ease this burden,” Keller said.

In his discussions, Keller also highlighted his outlook for the 117th Congress, which included focusing on the reopening of the economy, rural healthcare, broadband development, and the cost of education as well as providing support for farmers, healthcare providers, first responders, and veterans.

Though Keller has yet to receive committee assignments for the new Congressional session, he is expected to remain on the House Education and Labor Committee, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and the House Energy and Action Team.

“While it is easy to get lost in the partisan divide happening in Washington, I am committed to working on bringing our communities back stronger than ever before and addressing the real issues that will improve our region,” Keller said.
