84 Lumber Co., based in Washington County, reached $4 billion in annual sales for the first time in the company’s 65-year history.

“84 Lumber is proud to be an American company focused on putting America back to work at a time when many people are seeking employment or a fresh start during these challenging times,” Maggie Hardy Knox, 84 Lumber president, said. “The residential housing sector is booming, which means our business continues to expand, as does opportunity within our family.”

Hardy Knox purchased the company in 1992. The following year, the company reached $1 billion in annual sales.

The company operates nearly 250 stores in more than 30 states. This year, it opened manufacturing plants in Philadelphia, the Cleveland/Columbus market, and Greenville, S.C.

Next year, the company will expand in multiple locations, including Detroit, Boise, and Northern California.

The new locations offer job opportunities for drivers, sales coordinators, warehouse and door shop associates, and management trainees, the company said.

84 Lumber is a certified national women’s business enterprise and is the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials.

Forbes named the company one of America’s Largest Private Companies in 2018 and one of America’s Best Large Employers in 2019.
