Rep. Joyce introduces legislation to combat threats posed by China

Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) introduced legislation to protect American interests by combating growing threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party.

Rep. Joyce joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and other members of the China Task Force in introducing legislation that would require Congress to enact a complete legislative response to threats made by the Chinese Communist Party against the United States and to freedom, democracy, and human rights around the world.

“The China Task Force wrote a playbook for combating the aggressive Chinese Communist regime and countering its growing threat to our nation,” Joyce said. “From combating global public health threats to defending our networks and equipping Americans to lead in global innovation, we must act now.”

In September, the task force released its final report, which includes 400 solutions to strengthen national security and secure the U.S. place in international leadership for the 21st Century.

Joyce, the only medical doctor on the China Task Force, has prioritized efforts to secure America’s medical supply chains and bring the manufacturing of prescription drugs and other healthcare supplies back to the United States and to U.S. allies.

Joyce also has introduced legislation, such as the Cooperative Management of Mineral Rights Act of 2019, to foster the return the mining of vital minerals back to the United States and to mitigate the regulatory restrictions on the U.S. oil and gas industry particularly in Pennsylvania.

“The China Task Force Act will help us implement these commonsense solutions to protect Americans and hold the Chinese government accountable,” he said. “Now more than ever, Congress cannot stand by while the Chinese Communist Party continues to gain control and influence. Defending Americans’ safety and security must transcend political divides.”

In addition, Joyce has introduced legislation to combat Chinese interference in American higher educational institutions and to prevent future biothreats by prohibiting further manipulation of the human genome.
