Reading, Pa.-based EnerSys, a global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications, recently announced $6.4 million in investments at two of its battery-manufacturing locations, including Horsham, Pa.

The investments will be used to enhance manufacturing capabilities as the aerospace and defense business segment grows.

The other facility receiving an upgrade is based in Tampa, Fla.

Improvements include expanding ancillary equipment such as ovens, resistance welders and tooling; adding additional square footage to humidity-controlled dry rooms; increasing electrical testing equipment; and large-format automated production line expansions.

“We are experiencing strong demand for advanced batteries for multiple advanced weapon platforms as well as order growth for tactical vehicles, satellites and missile defense systems,” David M. Shaffer, EnerSys president and CEO, said. “In fact, we were recently selected by Raytheon to receive their Supplier Excellence Program EPIC Award, supporting the evidence that our quality products are being embraced by the defense industry. The investments being made at our Horsham and Tampa facilities are part of our plan to increase our aerospace and defense business and strengthen our global leadership within this market.”

EnerSys manufactures and distributes battery accessories, battery chargers, power equipment, outdoor equipment enclosure solutions and reserve power and motive power batteries.
