CVS Health, a health solutions company, plans a $4.9 million expansion at the company’s Hanover Township facility in Luzerne County.

The company will renovate and repurpose 13,000 square feet at its distribution center in Hanover Township to create a new prescription drug sorting, handling, and packaging operation.

“Our new pharmacy distribution facility will expand our operations capabilities and provide meaningful work to hundreds of Pennsylvanians,” David Dederichs, CVS Health executive director of government affairs, said.

CVS Health has a network of physical locations, digital channels, and more than 300,000 professionals, including more than 40,000 pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners.

The expansion will create 64 positions and retain 848 jobs between the company’s Hanover Township and Somerset Township facilities.

The Department of Community and Economic Development submitted a proposal for a $100,000 workforce development grant to train new workers and a $192,000 Pennsylvania First grant.

The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action team, which is a group of economic development professionals who work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania.

Over the past seven years, the team has invested nearly $18 billion to retain more than 145,500 jobs, create more than 48,500 positions, and support 432 completed projects.
